Face It You’re Single : 10 tracks to remind you that you’re alone

If you’re happily involved with someone or in a committed relationship, I have something to say to you.

Go away.

I mean, I’m really happy for you and all but seriously, stop sucking face on the park bench. Stop being all cute taking couple pictures at Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Stop going to farmer’s market just to feed each other fresh strawberries. And stop making albums on Facebook dedicated to your “boo <33”.

Now I know realistically that not all the couples surrounding me on a daily basis are going to disappear just by the click of this publish button. But I have created a lovely playlist that you can listen to while you are depressingly stalking the local love birds.

Enjoy.

Reminder: crying can occur, grab some tissues.

1) I Want You To Want Me – Cheap Trick

Classic oldie, but a goodie. The song I always play on Valentine’s Day about that special someone who doesn’t acknowledge my existence. Perfect song to describe the desire to be in love just like Heath Ledger and Julia Styles at the end of “10 Things I Hate About You” when Letters of Cleo perform this song on the top of their high school. It’s what you want to say out loud, but you don’t have the courage to do. So you’re still single.

I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
I’d love you to love me.
I’m beggin’ you to beg me.

2) Be Mine – Robyn (Cover by Ellie Goulding and Erik Hassle)

I’m always a sucker for an Ellie Goulding cover and this is my absolute favorite of hers. The tale of a painful breakup and about rethinking all the things you could have changed to keep them around. It becomes hard to comprehend that this is finally the end and even if you see them walking by, there is nothing you can do. (Special side note: this song is better when you’re listening to it outside in the rain)

It’s a cruel thing you’ll never know all the ways I tried
It’s a hard thing faking a smile when I feel like I’m falling apart inside
And now you’re gone it’s like an echo in my head
And I remember every word you said

3) Boyfriend – Best Coast

A vast majority of girls have had that one guy friend who they just can’t help but think “why can’t we just be together?” You’re friends, you know all their likes and dislikes, you just GET them unlike any other girl will. Stop ignoring your feelings. Maybe one day he will come around, but for now here’s Best Coast:

I wish he was my boyfriend
I’d love him to the very end
But instead he’s just a friend
I wish he was my boyfriend

4) Replacable – The Killers

One of the rare demos The Killers put out back in 2004. A song about your ex moving on really quickly and you are no where close to start dating again, but she still wants to be “friends”. Yeah right. Don’t be friends with your ex if this song happens to you.

replaceable
it’s cynical
call me useless; just you wait
put me down and call it fate
broken bridges, wasted hate
so just stand beside your man
the boy ain’t wrong
act like i never turned you on
all I do is cry

5) We Belong Together – Mariah Carey

Yeah, she married Nick Cannon, was in “Glitter”, and hasn’t made a platinum album in ages, but homegirl knows how it feels to be left. My favorite part is when she mentions how songs can make you think about someone and you just have to turn the station. Even though you are changing the station, you find every song reminds you of them. Enjoy this little throwback.

I gotta change the station
So I turn the dial
Trying to catch a break
And then I hear Babyface
I only think of you
And it’s breaking my heart
I’m trying to keep it together
But I’m falling apart

6) Somebody That I Used to Know – Gotye

Shut up. I don’t care if it’s over played. It’s perfect for this playlist.

So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over

7) That Should Be Me – Justin Bieber

Boy knows heartbreak even at 16. Some guy swopped on your girl. Its one of those times when you were talking to a girl making all these plans about being cute together and stuff and then all the sudden she has a boyfriend. You want nothing more in the world than to be that guy on her arm. Here’s the video with Rascal Flatts in it. I don’t like Rascal Flatts but Biebs looks so darn cute in the video I couldn’t resist.

What you doin’ to me
You’re takin’ him where we used to go
Now if you’re tryin’ to break my heart
It’s working ’cause you know that
That should be me

8) Fuck It (Don’t Want You Back)- Eamon

This song was on one of my NOW That’s What I Call Music CDs, not joking. This is the perfect song to scream in your car when no one is around because there is a lot of curse words in it. Perfect for 11 year old me. You know the story, guy found out his girl was cheating and this is his response.

You thought, you could
Keep this shit from me, yeah
Ya burnt bitch, I heard the story
Ya played me

9) Marvin’s Room (Can’t Do Better) – JoJo and Drake

The return of JoJo. Thank god, I missed her. The song originally written and done by Drake, but JoJo did a remake of the song, but from a girls perspective. Both versions are brilliant so I posted the version with both of their verses. The song that perfectly describes how your ex’s new ‘things’ will never compare to you.

And when you’re in her, I know I’m in your head.
I’m just saying you can do better.
Always turned you out every time we were together.
Once you had the best you can’t do better,
Baby I’m the best so you can’t do better.

10) Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)- Beyonce

Sometimes you just got to embrace the single life.

I couldnt care less what you think
I need no permission, did I mention
Dont pay him any attention
Cuz you had your turn
But now you gonna learn
What it really feels like to miss me
